On April 30th, our 61st annual dinner surpassed last year’s success by breaking the $1.4 million mark, as 840 attendees honored litigator Patty Glaser, 2009 recipient of the Bruce I. Hochman Maimonides Torch of Justice Award. The sold-out event featured keynote speaker Natan Sharansky, internationally known human rights activist and author. Legal Division chair Jonathan Anschell, indicated to the Daily Journal that the economic climate may have actually helped the fundraising. “…I think there is a recognition on the part of our donors in the legal community that what’s going on with the economy make this (dinner) much more important”, he said.
Honoree Patty Glaser, partner at Glaser, Weil, Fink, Jacobs, Howard & Shapiro, shared her thoughts with the industry newspaper by saying “I genuinely believe this is a reflection that the purse may be smaller but the hand is bigger”. The Legal Division gratefully thanks everyone who attended, sponsored tables and made generous gifts to the 2009 Campaign. See you next year!
